Choose the riding before choosing the rental
Selkirk Ski and Bike is our recommended local starting point. Its rental page lists trail, enduro, downhill and pedal-assist bikes, with helmet and protection included. The shop distinguishes downhill riding at Kicking Horse or Mount 7 from trail riding in its rental pricing. Tell the team where you intend to ride before selecting a bike. Check Selkirk’s current bike offering.
Season check, 14 October 2026: Selkirk’s bike page says rentals have finished for summer and will resume in early May 2027. That is the shop’s published plan, not a bike-park opening announcement. Confirm the shop, intended trails and resort calendar independently for your dates.
Park laps, forest trails or pedal assist?
- Lift-served downhill: name the park and ask about a suitable bike, protective equipment, lift access and instruction. A lift ticket is a separate item unless your selected rental product includes it.
- Forest riding: choose the route with your group’s ability, climbing expectations and return plan in mind. Use the Golden Cycling Club network information and current trail notices.
- E-bike outing: confirm the actual bike, permitted trails, battery expectations and return arrangements. Selkirk says some of its e-bikes are exceptions to its bike-park suitability; ask about the particular rental.
A bike’s availability does not make every trail suitable for every rider. Explain the least experienced rider’s needs, and ask the provider about equipment and instruction for the outing you have chosen.
Compare the resort rental option
The Kicking Horse rental centre publishes downhill packages with protective gear and separate options with a lift ticket. Its page also lists child bike rentals. Compare the exact product, fit, operating date and inclusions with the riding you want, rather than comparing an equipment-only price with a ticket bundle.
For current rates, deposits, damage responsibilities and cancellation terms, use the provider’s own booking information. These details can change between seasons. Keep the rental confirmation with your activity and transport plan.
Close four practical handoffs
- Collect: agree the shop, time and fitting process.
- Reach the ride: arrange transport to the actual start. A base-area shop and a forest trailhead are different locations.
- Return: choose a turnaround time that leaves room to get back.
- Hand over: confirm the equipment return deadline and any overnight custody arrangements.
If your party needs to carry bikes, confirm the vehicle setup or the transport provider’s bike capacity. For a mixed group, arrange each person’s outing and a clear reunion point instead of assuming everyone shares the same ride.
Turn two riding days into a lodge stay
Our three-night bike-weekend guide connects an arrival evening with two full riding days and departure. Copper Horse is at the resort base, with a shared lounge, sauna and included self-serve snack bar for time between outings.
Ask the lodge before booking about any essential overnight bike storage, security, washing or charging requirement. Send the bike count and type, your dates and the access you need; those arrangements are not assumed by this guide. Send a bike-stay question.
Two riders wanting separate beds can each use a queen in a two-queen room. Four guests sharing that room share its two beds. Choose beds for your party and confirm the equipment directly with the rental provider.
Quick bike-rental questions
Are all e-bikes suitable for the bike park?
Ask about the specific rental and permitted use. Selkirk identifies exceptions in its e-bike fleet; trail access and park rules need their own checks.
Does a rental include a lift ticket?
Check the selected product’s inclusions. The resort lists packages with and without lift tickets; do not assume a ticket is included in an equipment rental.
Can I keep a rental bike at the lodge overnight?
Confirm overnight custody with the provider and your handling and security requirements with Copper Horse before booking.
Operator information checked 14 October 2026. Confirm current access, availability and terms directly with each business before booking.
