Start with dates and two ride choices
Choose a period when the riding you want is operating, then build the stay around it. A park day and a forest day involve different tickets, equipment and meeting points. Use our Golden riding overview to choose the setting; this plan connects those choices to three nights at Copper Horse Lodge.
Season planning note, reviewed 13 October 2026: Kicking Horse lists its summer bike park as closed, and its trail report says the resort mountain is closed to foot and bike traffic between summer operations and winter reopening. This is a plan for an operating summer bike season. Check the operator’s published calendar and current trail report for your dates before committing to a park day.
Use three nights for two full riding days
Arrival evening and night one
Arrive with the following morning already organised: ticket or lesson arrangements, bike collection, equipment requirements and the meeting point. Self check-in begins at 4pm, with no staffed front desk. Save your reservation’s instructions before travelling and use the arrival guide for the final approach. Arrange dinner separately, particularly for a late arrival.
First full day and night two
Make this your Kicking Horse park day if the operating calendar and your bookings fit. Check the resort’s bike requirements and progression information. If instruction would help, ask Mountain School about a suitable lesson for your party. Leave time for collection, fitting and any operator check-in before riding.
Second full day and night three
Choose a Moonraker or CBT outing using the current map, your group’s ability and the day’s access conditions. These are networks with different individual trails, not a single difficulty rating. Set a turnaround plan and return meeting point. Fit any rental return into the provider’s agreed deadline, then leave the evening for dinner and packing.
Departure morning
Check-out is at 11am. Finish your room departure, bike handover and vehicle loading around that deadline. If you want to ride after checkout, confirm luggage, bike handling and rental arrangements beforehand; this outline does not assume a late room departure.
Choose the order with three practical decisions
- Is the park available on only one of your full days? Put the park booking on that day and use the other for an appropriate forest outing. If park access is unavailable throughout your visit, plan two forest days only after checking their access; remove the resort mountain from the riding plan.
- Will one bike suit both days? Ask the rental provider about the bike, permitted uses and return arrangements before ordering. A downhill rental for a park day should not be assumed to include permission or suitability for a separate forest day.
- Do riders have different experience or stamina? Agree the shared ride’s length, surface and climbing expectations first. The Golden Cycling Club network guide and official Golden bike map provide orientation; use current notices and trail signs to make the final choice. Consider separate outings with a clear reunion plan if one shared route does not fit.
Close the rental and transport gaps
Before booking equipment, write down four handoffs: collect the bike, reach the riding start, return from the ride and hand the bike back. Copper Horse is at the resort base; town shops and forest trailheads need their own transport plan.
Use our Golden and Kicking Horse bike-rental guide to compare equipment choices and collection and return questions for the two riding days.
- Collection and return: confirm the exact shop, date, time and what happens if you need to change the plan. Kicking Horse’s rental page distinguishes advance bookings from day-of enquiries. Check the current process for your visit.
- Equipment: confirm the bike size, permitted riding, protective equipment and any instruction you need. Keep the booking’s inclusions separate from your room reservation.
- Carrying: confirm how every rider and bicycle will travel. Check the vehicle’s bike-carrying arrangement, or obtain an explicit bike-capacity agreement from a transport provider.
- Meeting points: name the actual trailhead or operator meeting place. A journey to Golden, or to the resort base, is not automatically a transfer to your chosen start.
Confirm bike handling before booking
Send the lodge a practical bike-stay question before reserving if handling arrangements are essential. Include:
- Your dates, number of riders, number and type of bikes.
- Where you need bikes kept overnight, any security requirement and when you need access.
- Whether you need washing arrangements and where washing would be permitted.
- Any e-bike or removable-battery storage and charging requirement.
- Your arrival timing, unusual vehicle or trailer, and essential access needs.
These are requests to confirm, not listed lodge bike facilities. Agree the applicable arrangements before travelling. If a bike belongs to a rental provider, confirm its overnight custody requirements with that provider too.
Choose beds and a plan for the whole party
Two riders who want separate beds can compare the two-queen categories: each has two queen beds and accommodates up to four guests. Four people using those two beds need to agree bed sharing. Each king category has one king bed for up to two guests. Use the room comparison to choose the arrangement your party wants.
Back at the lodge, the shared lounge, complimentary self-serve snack bar and guest sauna give you places to settle between outings. Restaurant meals are separate; The Jeffrey Room is independently operated, so check its opening and make meal arrangements directly.
For non-riding companions, agree an independent outing, transport and reunion time. The summer itinerary and dining guide offer starting points. Resort sightseeing or other organised activities need their own operating-date and ticket checks.
Ready to shape the stay? Compare the rooms and beds, then send your dates and bike-handling requirements. This is a suggested itinerary, not a lodge package or an availability promise.
Bike-weekend questions
Does three nights mean three full riding days?
This outline gives you an arrival evening, two full riding days and an 11am checkout morning. It is a planning suggestion, not a minimum-stay rule or a package.
Are bike-park tickets, rentals or lessons included with the room?
A room reservation does not automatically include bike-park tickets, equipment or instruction. Arrange those with their operators and check what each product includes.
Can I assume there is bike storage, washing or e-bike charging?
Confirm your specific requirements with the lodge before booking. Tell us the bike count and type, security and overnight access needs, and any washing or battery/charging requirement. This guide does not promise those facilities.
Can both riding days be forest outings?
Yes, you can adapt the outline to two forest outings that suit your party, provided the chosen trails and access are appropriate and open. Check current information and plan the equipment, transport and return handoffs for each day.
Which room works for two riders who want separate beds?
Both two-queen categories have two queen beds and sleep up to four guests. Two riders can each use a separate queen bed. The king categories have one king bed for up to two guests; compare the room details and confirm any essential requirements.
