Where to start for ski or snowboard rentals
Our local recommendation for skis is Selkirk Ski and Bike. The shop is at the Kicking Horse base, across from the gondola. Its published ski offering includes daily and multi-day demo rentals, with skis and poles and boots if needed. Ask the team about a setup that suits your ability and planned skiing. See Selkirk’s ski rental information.
For a snowboard, use the Kicking Horse rental centre’s snowboard information. It also lists ski, snowshoe and cross-country equipment. Confirm the exact product and collection location with your chosen provider.
Season check, 14 October 2026: Selkirk’s homepage says the shop is closed for the shoulder season and plans to reopen on 7 November. A shop opening date does not establish that resort lifts are operating. Check both businesses for your travel dates.
Selkirk’s ski process differs from a reservation
Selkirk says it does not take reservations for its regular ski rentals and demos. It asks groups of six or more to contact the shop in advance. Backcountry equipment has a separate reservation process. Use the shop’s instructions for the product you need; a room reservation does not hold rental equipment.
The resort describes its online winter rental purchase as a pre-purchase rather than an equipment reservation and advises arriving early for selection. Read the current product instructions before paying. Knowing which process you are using prevents a first morning built around an assumed reserved set.
Build the first morning around fitting
Work backwards from your lesson or planned mountain start. Allow time to find the shop, discuss your experience, fit boots, adjust equipment and reach the meeting point. Share the following with the rental team:
- The activity, dates and number of people needing equipment.
- Each person’s experience and any essential fit requirements.
- Whether you have your own boots, helmet or other equipment.
- Your lesson meeting time, collection plan and return deadline.
For families, ask about suitable sizes and the complete equipment list before organising the morning. A junior seasonal scheme is a different product from a holiday-day rental. Ask the provider which option fits your visit.
Keep equipment, instruction and lift access together
Write down what each booking includes. Equipment, instruction, a lift ticket and accommodation are separate components unless a confirmed product explicitly combines them. Keep those confirmations together, and tell a lesson provider if equipment fitting affects your arrival time.
For touring equipment, ask the operator about the intended trip and what gear is supplied. The availability of a rental set does not establish that a backcountry route is appropriate. Follow your guide’s requirements and the operator’s preparation instructions.
Choose the nights around your mountain days
Staying at Copper Horse puts the gondola a short walk away. Arriving the evening before can give fitting its own place in the next morning, rather than combining a long drive with an early lesson. Our three-day ski-trip outline helps connect full ski days with arrival and departure.
Two friends wanting separate beds can choose either two-queen category. Each has two queen beds for up to four guests. The king categories each have one king bed for up to two. Find the room arrangement that fits, and use our arrival instructions to plan the final approach.
Want a café stop during an operating resort season? We recommend Double Black for breakfast and lunch. Confirm its hours around your collection and lesson plans.
Quick rental questions
Can I book Selkirk equipment through the lodge?
Arrange equipment directly with Selkirk. Contact Copper Horse about your rooms and arrival; the rental provider handles equipment availability and its rental terms.
Should I reserve skis or buy a rental product online?
Follow the instructions for the specific provider and product. Selkirk’s regular ski demos are walk-in; the resort distinguishes pre-purchase from reservation. Touring rentals have separate arrangements.
Are rentals included with a Copper Horse stay?
Arrange rental equipment, lift access and instruction separately from the room booking.
Operator information checked 14 October 2026. Confirm current access, availability and terms directly with each business before booking.
