The four-night ski-trip outline.
Choose the activity dates and any lessons first, then book the lodge nights around them. The outline below gives each main day its own space.
| When | Main plan | Lodge night |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival day | Winter travel and self check-in from 4pm. | Night 1 |
| Day 1 | Equipment, lessons and a first resort ski day. | Night 2 |
| Day 2 | Another resort day, or Dawn Mountain. | Night 3 |
| Day 3 | More resort skiing or a booked guided activity. | Night 4 |
| Departure morning | Equipment and baggage arrangements; check-out by 11am. | — |
Get the first morning ready.
Save the lodge’s arrival instructions before setting out. After self check-in, review the resort report and the meeting instructions for any lesson or rental collection. Share the morning plan with your companions.
The boot room and free all-day lobby snack bar are useful for the ski routine. Arrange main meals separately, and make any dinner plans fit the arrival journey. Our winter-driving guide brings the vehicle, road and final approach together.
Day one: find the pace that suits your party.
Use the first morning for equipment fit, lessons and open terrain appropriate to your experience. New or returning skiers can build the day around instruction; confident companions can choose their own terrain and meet later.
Set a shared lunch or reunion point before separating. Finish with enough time to rest and enjoy the evening at the lodge. The first day can tell you whether everyone wants more skiing tomorrow or a change of activity.
Day two: build on the first day, or change technique.
For another resort day, use what worked: the lesson, terrain and pace that made the first outing enjoyable. Adjust the plan using the current mountain report and the group’s energy.
Dawn Mountain is an alternative for classic skiing, skate skiing or snowshoeing. Choose the pass, equipment and loop that suit your activity, and organise transport to the centre. This is a different outing from the gondola-connected resort day.
Day three: more mountain time or a booked adventure.
A third Kicking Horse ski day keeps the holiday centred on one resort. It is also the simplest option when the party wants more time on familiar open terrain or another lesson.
For experienced skiers interested in a heli day, investigate CMH Purcell before the trip. A guided snowmobile outing is another distinct option. Suitability, meeting points and the operator’s terms should determine those bookings; fit the day order around the confirmed activity.
These are choices for the holiday, with their own conditions and bookings. Keep the return and evening simple enough to organise equipment and packing before departure.
A shorter break starts with fewer full ski days.
Use the number of full days between arrival and departure to choose your plan. An extra partial ski day depends on your travel, baggage and equipment arrangements.
| Lodge nights | Full days between travel days | Suggested focus |
|---|---|---|
| Four nights | Three full days | Resort skiing with an optional separate winter activity. |
| Three nights | Two full days | Two ski days, or one ski day and one Nordic outing. |
| Two nights | One full day | One complete ski day with an uncomplicated arrival and departure. |
Match the room and the journey to the people.
For friends sharing, compare the beds as well as maximum occupancy: two-queen rooms sleep up to four, while king rooms have one bed for up to two. Ask about several rooms if the party needs more privacy.
Check-out is at 11am. Work backwards from the onward flight or transfer, and settle equipment return and any storage request before planning a final ski morning. Use current road information for the departure day.
