A family winter holiday at Kicking Horse can include people learning to ski, confident riders and companions who prefer a different kind of snow day. Plan a shared base and reunion times, then give each person an outing that suits them. Three full activity days work well with four lodge nights, leaving arrival and departure outside the main itinerary.

Start with the people, then book the activities

Write down each traveller's experience, interest and preferred pace. Someone skiing for the first time needs a different first morning from a confident rider; a companion coming for mountain views may want sightseeing rather than a ski ticket. Confirm the activity's suitability and date before choosing a room and transport plan.

Kicking Horse's children's lessons and adult lessons provide separate starting points. Check age groups, ability levels, availability and what the selected product includes. Arrange equipment fitting and the meeting point too, so the first morning has time for both.

Use our ski and snowboard rental guide to plan equipment choice, fitting, collection and return alongside lesson times.

A four-night family and mixed-interest outline

Arrival day

  • Ski-focused travellers: Travel, self check-in and prepare for lessons or rentals.
  • Other members of the party: Settle in and confirm tomorrow's transport and meeting plan.

Day one

  • Ski-focused travellers: Lessons or terrain suited to ability.
  • Other members of the party: Gondola sightseeing if operating, or a planned Golden outing.

Day two

  • Ski-focused travellers: Another resort day, or try Nordic skiing.
  • Other members of the party: Dawn Mountain snowshoeing or a town visit.

Day three

  • Ski-focused travellers: More skiing or a shorter final mountain day.
  • Other members of the party: Repeat a favourite outing or keep a quieter day.

Departure morning

  • Ski-focused travellers: Equipment return, packing and check-out by 11am.
  • Other members of the party: Check-out and onward travel.

This is a flexible sequence. Place any confirmed lessons or timed activities first, then move the other outings around weather, operating information and how the party feels. Main meals and activities are separate arrangements from the room.

Day one: different mornings, one clear reunion

Learners can build the day around instruction while more experienced companions choose suitable open terrain. Use the resort's current snow, lift and trail information before setting out. Keep the first day realistic rather than treating everyone as a single ability group.

Non-skiers can investigate the resort's winter gondola sightseeing. Confirm the sightseeing product, lift operation and last return for the date. If a summit meal is part of the plan, arrange restaurant seating and lift access together.

Choose a meeting point everyone can reach, with the correct ticket or access. Share a time and a backup plan if weather changes the outing. Children need a clear handover between a lesson and the supervising adult; use the school's instructions rather than a general mountain meeting point.

Day two: snowshoes or Nordic skis at Dawn Mountain

Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre offers classic and skate skiing plus a separate marked snowshoe network. This can be a shared change of scene, even if your group uses different trails. Choose a manageable first loop and meet again at the chalet, taking its current hours into account.

Golden Nordic Ski Club publishes passes, conditions and facility information. Its visitor FAQs explain rental equipment, lessons and sign-in. Arrange sizes and instruction beforehand; snowshoes belong on the designated snowshoe routes, and the club's rentals are for use at the centre.

Our Dawn Mountain rentals and lessons guide brings the pass, equipment, lesson and return checks into one plan.

Organise the journey using the centre's directions. The lodge's short walk to the gondola serves the resort base; Dawn Mountain is a separate destination.

Day three: leave room to choose

After two days, ask what everyone wants more of. Another lesson or ski day may suit some people, while others prefer time in Golden or a slower afternoon at the lodge. A shorter outing can be a better finish than adding a new ambitious activity before departure.

For a town visit, Tourism Golden suggests the Rotary Trail, timber pedestrian bridge, cafés and local arts. Choose a suitable walk for the conditions and check venue hours. If tubing interests your family, consult Kicking Horse's Tube Zone information for opening, tickets and child requirements before adding it.

Choose beds and evenings that work for your party

Copper Horse's two-queen rooms sleep up to four people sharing two beds. Compare 2 Queens Deluxe and 2 Queens Premium; the private Jacuzzi tub belongs to Premium. For more privacy or different sleep schedules, ask about several rooms. Confirm any essential room or access needs before reserving.

The shared lounge gives your party somewhere to reconnect beyond the bedroom. The complimentary self-serve lobby snack bar is available all day; restaurant meals at the independently operated Jeffrey Room are arranged separately. Plan dinners and transport alongside the activity schedule.

For a separately purchased breakfast or lunch at the resort base, see our Double Black Café guide and check its current menu and hours.

Save the arrival instructions before travel. Contactless self check-in begins at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. Use three nights for two full activity days, or two nights for one, if that better fits the family. Start with the room comparison and build a holiday everyone can enjoy at their own pace.

Questions before you book

Can non-skiers enjoy a Kicking Horse winter holiday?

Yes. Investigate winter gondola sightseeing, Dawn Mountain snowshoeing and outings in Golden. Confirm seasonal access and transport, then arrange reunion times with the skiers.

How many nights give us three full activity days?

Four nights give three full days between arrival and departure. This outline keeps check-in and check-out days for travel.

Which Copper Horse rooms work for four guests?

Both two-queen categories accommodate up to four guests sharing two queen beds. Choose 2 Queens Premium if a private Jacuzzi tub matters.

Are lift tickets, lessons or restaurant meals included?

Arrange these separately. The room stay includes the all-day self-serve lobby snack bar; activity products and independently operated restaurant meals have their own bookings and terms.
